One Third of Americans and Britons Starve Before 1975
Radio Evangelist, 1956: 'One Third of All Our People Will Soon Die of Starvation and Disease'
Herbert W. Armstrong's booklet 1975 in Prophecy put a great drought 'probably between 1965 and 1972,' then famine, plague and a German hydrogen-bomb invasion before 1975.
What was said
“one third of all our people will soon die of starvation and disease”
— Herbert W. Armstrong (founder, Radio Church of God, later Worldwide Church of God) · said Jun 1956 · due Drought 'probably between 1965 and 1972'; the rest before 1975
1975 arrived without the famine, the plague or the invasion. The push-button leisure he mocked turned out closer to the mark.
The fine print
The booklet opens by mocking the 'push-button world of leisure by 1975' that science promised, then offers what 'GOD SAYS.' The drought would 'strike sooner than probably between 1965 and 1972.' Next, 'The German-dominated European combine will blast our cities and industrial centers with hydrogen bombs,' and survivors would be carried off as slaves, all 'before the anticipated push-button leisure-year of 1975 dawns upon us.'
