The World Ends by 1996, When the Earth Turns Seven Days Old
Los Angeles Institute, 1994: Creation Is 'Coming to a Close,' With the End of the World Due Within Two Years
The Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research taught that the earth would turn seven days old in God's reckoning, and rest, by 1996.
What was said
“We happen to be privileged to be living at that time when creation is coming to a close.”
— Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research (Los Angeles; founded by Henry Clifford Kinley) · said Mar 1994 · due By 1996
1996 ended with creation still open for business.
The Story
Said by Alonza Joyner, the institute's Virginia dean, at a three-day conference attended by about 1,000 people. The Times summarised the shared belief: 'the world will end within two years, when the earth will turn 7 days old--in God's reckoning--and be ready for a rest.'
The institute said the plan began to unfold in 1931, when Kinley 'received a divine message.' Its international dean added: 'We're not a cult.'
