Armageddon by the Fall of 1975
Watch Tower Pencils In Armageddon for Fall 1975, Adds 'But We Are Not Saying'; Good Call on the Pencil
Watch Tower publications floated 1975 for the start of Christ's millennial reign, while insisting 'we are not saying'.
What was said
“According to this trustworthy Bible chronology six thousand years from man's creation will end in 1975, and the seventh period of a thousand years of human history will begin in the fall of 1975.”
— Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses) · said 1966 · due fall of 1975
1975 came and went with the usual amount of world, still intact. The fine print ('It could! ... But we are not saying') aged better than the headline.
The fine print
From the 1966 book Life Everlasting in Freedom of the Sons of God. Watch Tower publications raised the possibility that Christ's millennial reign (and Armageddon) could begin in 1975, while also hedging. Vice-president Frederick Franz said in 1966: 'It could! It could! All things are possible with God ... But we are not saying.'
