Voliva's September Puff
Flat-Earth Overseer Voliva Said the World Would Go 'Puff' in September 1935
Zion, Illinois's Wilbur Glenn Voliva stacked end-dates through the 1920s and early '30s; the 1931 announcement put disappearance on the 1935 calendar.
What was said
“the world is going to go 'puff' and disappear in September, 1935”
— Wilbur Glenn Voliva (Christian Catholic Apostolic Church, Zion, Ill.) · said 1931 · due September 1935
September 1935 did not go puff. Voliva's earlier end-dates had already trained the audience for sequels.
The Story
Wilbur Glenn Voliva ran Zion, Illinois, like a company town with optional physics. The Earth was flat, the sun was nearby, and the end of the world kept needing a new September.
In 1931 he announced the globe — or rather his disc — would go 'puff' and disappear in September 1935. It was one date in a short series: 1923, 1927, 1930, 1934, then this one.
September 1935 arrived. Zion's fig bars kept baking. The overseer kept broadcasting. Puff remained a sound effect, not a schedule.
Receipts
abhota.info quotes Abanes, End-Time Visions p.287: in 1931 Voliva announced the world would go 'puff' and disappear in September 1935. Wikipedia confirms he predicted ends in 1923, 1927, 1930, 1934 and 1935 (Gardner / newspaper trail). One claim here: the September 1935 puff.
